Your First Visit at Insight Orthodontics

What to expect on Your First Visit

We know how much anxiety patients may feel when planning their first visit to any dental practice, so here is what you can expect. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a friendly team member who will guide you with pre-examination medical and dental questionnaires and, if you like, a tour of our office. Once the questionnaire is completed, you will meet Dr. Arun Shailendran, who will begin the new patient consultation.

Orthodontic radiographs

If your dentist has taken recent OPG/other radiographs, you may request them to forward them to our practice at hello@insightorthodontics.com.au. Otherwise, please email us the details of your dentist, and we can contact them on your behalf. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.

After your visit, you will receive a written report from Dr. Arun Shailendran.

FAQs

Common orthodontic questions

We’re more than happy to answer any questions you may have about orthodontic treatments. Here at Insight Orthodontics we want your decision-making process and experience with us be a great one!

The most appropriate time to commence treatment will depend on multiple factors,

  • Is there a significant risk of irreversible damage to teeth, jaws or gums?
  • Is the psychosocial well-being of the child affected due to the way the jaws and teeth are positioned
  • Dental development status
  • Jaw growth status
  • Does the child understand the responsibilities related to maintenance of oral hygiene, looking after the orthodontic appliance and the ability to wear the appliance as advised
  • Do they possess good oral hygiene and desire to achieve the signature smile?

No, you do not need a referral.

If you desire to enhance your smile, improve your bite or simply seek an opinion from a Specialist Orthodontist, Now is a good time!

Nevertheless, the Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic visit be scheduled when the child is between 6-8 years of age. Examination at this age allows the recording of baseline development features and allows for longitudinal (long-term) monitoring of the child’s craniofacial growth and dental development. This invaluable data will allow us to provide the best advice regarding the timing and the need for orthodontic intervention.
